Jeera Aloo Recipe

ofcourse, potatoes! Do we ever go wrong with them?! When I am cooking for people, I go quite overboard and dish out far too many things. But when it comes to cooking just for myself, I am quite lazy. This another fav comes from that phase of laziness. Do try at your risk. Compare to Indian food which is supposed to be brilliantly rich with exotic spices, this is quite plain again.

Ingredients-
olive oil
cumin seeds (jeera)
a pinch of asofetida (hing)
fresh green chillies (chopped)

potatoes (boiled, diced)
salt to taste
sugar to taste
tumeric powder (optional)

one medium-sized lemon (you decide depending upon the quantity of the whole thing)
sesame seeds (i am too concern about white/black)
fresh coriander

Heat some oil in a non-stick pan
Add cumin seeds (i would be a little generous with this one since i basically like the aroma when this splutters and the taste is good, being the only real spice around). Let it splutter
Add a pinch of asofetida
Add some fresh chopped green chillies (depending upon your taste)
Add the potatoes
Sprinkle some talk to taste.
Add tumeric powder
Add sugar to taste
Let it cook for few minutes
Off heat (after few seconds), squeeze lemon onto this. Again as I like this a bit lemony I would go little generous.
Mix it.
Garnish with fresh coriander and sesame seeds.

- Can serve with plain indian bread(roti). Try it with some mixed pickle as a part of regular lunch
- Or use it as a stuffing for a toasted/grilled sandwich.
- Or just by itself in a bowl like a salad. In this case, I would go colourful with some green peppers, sweet corn and peas.
 - Or as a form of a pattice with ketchup.
- Or deep-fry it coated with some gram flour on the lines of batata vada.

*btw, some may call this jeera aloo but well, I do not know how the typical jeera aloo is cooked, so didn't want to call  this that.

Hope you would like this.
