My fridge and kitchen look like a cultural war zone.
I live in the deep south and there are not many ethnic restaurants or groceries here.
Added to that, my husband is American and loves Indian food and all my friends and in-USA relatives where I live are good olde Southern People.
Here is what they typically serve every thursday when we get together.
Yesterday we had :
Cole Slaw
Banana Pudding.
Beef Stew
Red Beans and Rice with Venison Sausage.
Delicate garlic rolls.
My husband is a foodie, eats anything that is cooked well, but my kids are another matter altogether.
While playing in Plankton Palace (from Atlantis SquarePantis on the wii) my son had a taste for ChikFilA chicken nuggets.
My kids will not come within five feet of Indian food without choking.
They will eat only American food and before we go to any Indian Family's house, they will tell me a dozen times to tell the hostess that they have already eaten and to not ask them to eat.
The last time my son was at an Indian family's table
He looked at everything and then said:
Mommy - but - where is the food.
Ergo we have not been invited back.
Now you see my problem.
Anyway here goes Mommy's instant Chik-fil_A style chicken nuggets recipe:
1.Take out 1 package of chicken breast filets
2. Cut into square inch pieces.
3.Throw in a bowl and sprinkle salt and pepper.
(SEPARATE FIGHTING CHILDREN AND CURIOUS BABY IN FRONT OF WII)
Then come back and throw 1 large egg and 2 tablespoons AllPurpose Flour into the same bowl. Mix really well to coat the chicken pieces.
Meanwhile heat a few tablespoons olive oil in a large heavy bottom pan.
Throw the chicken piece by piece into the pan and let then brown well, turn many times, till they get a nice brown color.
Shoo baby out of kitchen after washing hands.
Then serve onto a wide plate and shout to the kids that chicken nuggets are on the dining table.
Remember the flame and go to the kitchen to turn off the stove.
Come back to the dining table, find all the nuggets gone and settle for a blueberry smoothie for dinner.
At least now they are not asking you to drive them to ChikFilA
(NOW YOU ARE SO TIRED YOU LET THE nugget-fed kids duke it out in front of WII)
HAPPY KIDS= TIRED MOMMA.
