Navratri, literally meaning Nine Nights, is a celebration of the nine forms of Shakti, a feminine deity of the Hindus. It is celebrated in various ways throughout India. In South India, people set up Kolu, an exhibition of dolls and deity figures on various tiers, in their homes and perform pujas by the evening. In North India, especially in Bengal, the eight day is celebrated as Durga Puja with great gusto.
