By lowbat This is my husband's favourite accompaniment for boiled rice. Try this dish. Very nutritious- rich in iron, fibre and protein and low fat.

a pinch of asafoetida(hing)
2tbsp. oil
tamarid
turmeric powder
2 green chillies
curry leaves

Method
If the gram is dry, dry roast it in a heavy bottomed pan till it is crisp and gives out an aroma. Now use little oil to fry the chillies till they are crisp. then add methi and fry tll brown. Add coriander seeds , jeera and hing. Take care no to burn them. Fry on a low flame.
Meanwhile, cook the gram with 2 cups of water in a pressure cooker till soft. Let it cool. Blend the masala and cooked gram in a mixer with tamarind(amla sized).
