NextPreviousAvakkai Pickle Recipe

I’ve been telling anyone who cares to listen that I am not a flirt but a drooler/ogler. Drooling is an art. Yea, you heard that right! You can take that from me for over the years I have perfected it to a fine art. Droolers are never sexist coz they enjoy feminity. They love the presence of women around them. They adore the sweet dames.

But to my dismay I've found that the femmes never drool at a man. They might drool for their intelligence, they might drool for their sense of humour, but they never drool at a man...for the person himself. If there is only one thing in the world that 'most' women drool...it is mangoes. They love mangoes in every stage...right from the unripe ones to the succulent of them. So my endeavour in this post is to make the dames salivate...now please free to do so coz I have a 100 gallon capacity bucket near you....

The other day I saw some real super duper saucy unripe mangoes and decided to make spicy mango avakkai pickle...wifey would love it...so there I was donning the chef's hat...and chopping away at the kitchen!

Try it some day...you'll never go wrong with this....

Cut mangoes

It'll help if you can actually wipe the mango pieces with a soft cloth

The various powders

The prepared pickle

Curd Rice, potato chips and Avakkai Pickle. Manna from Heaven!

Recipe

Ingredients:

Mangoes 4
Red chilly powder 100 gms
Salt 100 gms
Turmeric powder 25 gms
Mustard seeds 50 gms (roasted and powdered fine)
Fenugreek seeds 10 gms (roasted and powdered fine)
Asafoetida powder 1 tsp
Oil 100 -150ml (as per sin level)

Method:

First of all use clean dry hands and utensils.

Cut mangoes to bite sized pieces.

Mix all powders (except the asafoetida) with oil to make a paste.

Mix the mangoes pieces into the paste and keep aside.

Fry the asafoetida powder in a little oil (5 ml) and add to the mango-paste mixture.

Add the remaining oil to the mango pickle. You can either heat and then cool the oil and add it or just add as it is. Mango Avakkai Pickle is ready! It takes at least a week or two for the spices to get 'settled' well.
