Crab Curry is one of my all time favorite, this is a mouth watering, finger licking, deliciously aromatic and simple to make recipe handed down from my grandmother to my mother and now me!


Fortunately for me, when I buy crabs, the vendor who has become a friend now, cleans it for me! Otherwise cleaning them can be tricky first few times, especially if they are alive. I remember as a kid watching my mom tying these crabs to prevent them from running away.

Ingredients


  1. Crabs ½  kg
  2. Coconut gratings 1 cup
  3. Roasted red chilli 8
  4. Onion 1 medium
  5. Tamarind marble size
  6. Salt to taste
  7. Oil 2 tbsp for seasoning

Method:


Grind together coconut gratings, roasted red chillies and tamarind to fine mixture. Chop onion and separate into two parts. Pour masala into a large enough vessel or Kulle, boil, and add one portion of chopped onion and salt. After few minutes add the crabs and cook for 15 minutes, add extra water if needed but do not make it too watery. Once the crabs are cooked, season it with remaining onion roasted to golden brown color in little coconut oil. Check for salt and serve hot with boiled rice!
